Reward Offered in Escaped Tennessee Murderer Manhunt

Authorities have launched a frantic search for an escaped Tennessee murderer who slipped through a prison fence and stole a farm truck over the weekend. Jacob Allen Morley, 28, broke out of the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville on Sunday while wearing his prison uniform. For US residents, particularly those in the Southeast and along state borders, this means heightened vigilance is crucial as law enforcement mobilizes across multiple jurisdictions.

Morley was serving a life sentence for the gruesome 2022 killing of his coworker, Cody Birchfield. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and local police are urging the public to stay away if they spot him. The agency warned residents online, stating, “Do not approach this individual.”

Investigators reviewing security footage confirmed Morley escaped through a perimeter fence at the Tiptonville facility on Sunday evening. The Tennessee Department of Correction has not yet released specific details regarding how he managed to breach the barrier or how long he went unnoticed. Shortly after his escape, authorities say Morley stole a white pickup truck from a nearby property. The vehicle is distinct, clearly marked with “Lindamood Planting Company” on its side doors.

The breakout has renewed intense scrutiny on safety protocols at state-run facilities. The Tiptonville prison has struggled with severe, chronic staffing issues. A 2023 audit revealed a staggering 61% vacancy rate for correctional officers at the Northwest Correctional Complex. For American taxpayers and local communities, these systemic security failures raise immediate questions about public safety and prison oversight.

Officials consider Morley highly dangerous and unpredictable. He is described as a 5-foot-11, 240-pound man with brown hair and green eyes. Law enforcement agencies are asking anyone on the road—from daily commuters to cross-country truck drivers—to keep a close watch for the stolen farm truck.

Morley has a documented history of fleeing authorities. When deputies first arrived at his Carter County home in 2022 to investigate Birchfield’s disappearance, Morley fled. He led police on a high-speed chase that eventually ended across state lines in North Carolina. That precedent has US Marshals and highway patrols on high alert, anticipating he may attempt another multi-state run to evade justice.

Morley’s initial conviction stems from a chilling and highly publicized case. In 2022, Birchfield was missing for several weeks before investigators finally discovered his body. It was found concealed in a box underneath Morley’s home. Along with first-degree murder, a jury convicted Morley of aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, vandalism, and evading arrest.
